The Indian American International Chamber of Commerce (IAICC) has commended US President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for paying a State Visit to India on 24-25 February 2020. Termed as a historic visit, President Trump and the First Lady attended official engagements in New Delhi and Ahmedabad, Gujarat, visited the magnificent Taj Mahal in Agra, and also spent time interacting with industry leaders and a cross-section of Indian society in their 36-hour whirlwind trip to India.
The relationship between PM Modi and President Trump has evolved over the last few years with notable progress made in areas including trade, defense, counter-terrorism, energy, coordination on regional and global issues as well as people-to-people ties. President Trump’s visit has provided an opportunity for both leaders to strengthen the US- India strategic partnership and further bilateral ties between the both countries.
President Trump and his delegation landed on February 24th morning in Ahmedabad and were greeted by grand and colorful celebrations. During his address at the Namaste Trump event, held at Motera Stadium, the world’s largest cricket stadium, in Ahmedabad, President Trump said, India's rise as a prosperous and independent nation is an example to every nation all over the world and one of the most outstanding achievements of our century. It is all the more inspiring because you have done it as a democratic country, you have done it as a peaceful country, you have done it as a tolerant country, and you have done it as a great free country.
"There is all the difference in the world between a nation that seeks power through coercion, intimidation, and aggression, and a nation that rises by setting its people free and unleashing them to chase their dreams. And that is India. This is why India's accomplishment over the last 70 years is completely unrivaled no matter where you go," President Trump added.
On President Trump’s State Visit to India, PM Modi said, "This is the fifth meeting between President Trump and me in the last eight months. President Trump's unprecedented and historical welcome in Motera yesterday will be remembered forever. Yesterday it became clear again that the relationship between America and India is not just between two governments, but people-driven, people-centric. This relationship is in the most important partnership of the 21st century. And, so today President Trump and I have decided to take our relationship to the level of Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. President Trump has been an invaluable contribution in bringing relations to this level."
On Monday, both President Trump and Melania Trump visited Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, and visited the Taj Mahal in Agra in Uttar Pradesh in the evening.
